Artis Gilmore Named As Dolphin Pointe Health Center Special Ambassador
Artis Gilmore, Jacksonville University basketball star and NBA Hall of Fame inductee, has joined the Dolphin Pointe team as special ambassador for the Arlington-based senior living complex nearing completion next to JU.
“I am very pleased to be able to team up with Artis again after nearly 50 years of friendship,” comments Greg Nelson, Dolphin Pointe partner and Artis’s teammate on the legendary JU team that played for the national title against UCLA in 1970.
“I have a deep admiration for the way he has lived his life after basketball,” Nelson says. “Artis is a true gentleman in every sense of the word, and we are blessed to have him representing Dolphin Pointe to the community.”
As part of the Dolphin Pointe Health Center staff, Artis will be available to the public for special events and tours of the campus. He will also serve as liaison to the community for health care matters. “Health care in general and long term care specifically are prone to changes in reimbursement and policy,” states Nelson. “Any time that we as a campus can articulate makes up these changes, the better we all are.” Artis will have a role in this and other matters affecting the health and happiness of Dolphin Pointe residents, as well as general communication to the community of Dolphin Pointe’s goals and beliefs.
Dolphin Pointe is an exclusive 120-suite private-accommodation building overlooking the majestic St. Johns river. As the facility nears completion later this year, Dolphin Pointe team members will hold tours on what the skilled nursing facility will offer to the public with accommodations, physical and occupational therapy, and other medical care.
