Most outpatient therapy clinics in Jacksonville offer a therapy gym, a treatment table, and a rotating staff of therapists. That works for minor injuries. But if you’re recovering from a stroke, a joint replacement, a spinal procedure, a brain injury, or a neurological condition, you need a facility with more depth. Dolphin Pointe’s outpatient rehabilitation program operates inside our full rehabilitation center in the Arlington neighborhood. That means you have access to two heated aquatic therapy pools with underwater treadmills, BioSway balance testing, certified lymphedema specialists, and a therapy team that coordinates across physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy when your recovery crosses disciplines. You also get continuity — the same therapist sees you at every visit, knows your history, and adjusts your plan based on how your body is responding. That’s what drives real progress.
Signs You Need Outpatient Rehabilitation
Going home after surgery or a hospital stay feels like a milestone — and it is. But if any of these describe where you are right now, outpatient rehab is the next step to getting fully back.
Our Outpatient Rehabilitation Services
Our outpatient rehab program serves patients at every stage of recovery. The most common pathway starts after discharge from our inpatient rehabilitation program — patients who have regained enough function to go home but still need two to three therapy sessions per week to reach their full recovery goals. But many of our outpatient clients come to us directly from surgeon referrals, primary care physicians, and neurologists across Jacksonville. Whether you’re post-surgical, post-stroke, or managing a chronic condition, your outpatient plan is built around your specific goals and adjusted at every visit.
Our neurological rehabilitation program is one of the strongest components of our outpatient services. Stroke survivors, traumatic brain injury patients, and people living with Parkinson’s disease or MS need therapy that goes beyond standard physical rehab. Our team coordinates across PT, OT, and speech therapy to address movement, daily function, communication, and cognitive processing in a unified plan. Our cognitive rehabilitation program — focused on memory, attention, problem-solving, and sequencing — is often the missing piece for patients who can walk and talk but struggle with the thinking skills that independent living requires. Patients from Springfield, San Marco, and Riverside come to Dolphin Pointe specifically for this level of neuro rehab.
For younger and more active patients, our sports injury rehabilitation program handles ACL reconstructions, rotator cuff repairs, Achilles tendon surgery, labrum repairs, and other athletic injuries that require a structured return-to-sport progression. Our geriatric rehabilitation program serves older adults dealing with age-related deconditioning, fall risk, and reduced mobility — building the strength and confidence they need to stay independent at home. Both programs use our therapy gym and aquatic pools, and both benefit from the clinical depth that a full rehabilitation center provides. Patients from Mandarin, Regency, Orange Park, and across Duval County choose our outpatient program because the quality of care matches what they’d get as an inpatient — with the convenience of going home at the end of each session.
Outpatient Rehabilitation for Jacksonville and Northeast Florida
Outpatient therapy clinics are on every corner in Jacksonville. Most are standalone offices with a therapy gym, a few treatment rooms, and a staff that rotates between locations. Dolphin Pointe’s outpatient program operates inside a full rehabilitation center and licensed skilled nursing facility — which means the resources available to our outpatient clients go far beyond what a standalone clinic offers. Two heated aquatic therapy pools. BioSway computerized balance testing. Certified lymphedema specialists. A vestibular rehabilitation program. And a therapy team that coordinates across physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy under one roof.
That depth matters most for patients with complex recoveries. A stroke survivor who needs PT for walking, OT for daily living skills, and speech therapy for communication doesn’t want to drive to three different clinics. At Dolphin Pointe, all three disciplines share the same building, the same patient records, and the same care plan. Your PT knows what your OT is working on. Your speech therapist knows what physical milestones you’ve hit. That coordination drives faster, more complete recoveries — and it’s why neurologists, orthopedic surgeons, and hospital discharge planners across northeast Florida refer patients to our outpatient program.
We serve outpatient clients from Arlington, University Park, Fairways Forest, Colony Cove, Woodmere, Gilmore, Lake Lucina, Springfield, San Marco, Riverside, Avondale, Mandarin, Regency, Orange Park, Southside, Downtown Jacksonville, Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach, and Atlantic Beach. We accept most major insurance plans, including Medicare. Call 904-914-8801 to schedule your first visit.
What to Expect as an Outpatient
Our outpatient process is built to get you started quickly and keep your recovery on track. Here’s how it works.
1. Referral and scheduling. Your physician, surgeon, or hospital discharge planner sends a referral. Our admissions team verifies insurance and schedules your first evaluation — typically within a few days. If you’re transitioning from our inpatient program, the handoff is seamless — same facility, often the same therapy team.
2. Initial evaluation. Your therapist performs a hands-on assessment of your current function — range of motion, strength, balance, gait, and daily living ability. This evaluation sets the baseline we measure all progress against and determines your therapy frequency (typically two to three sessions per week).
3. Personalized treatment plan. Based on your evaluation, your therapist sets specific, measurable goals — not vague targets. “Walk 500 feet without an assistive device.” “Climb a full flight of stairs independently.” “Return to tennis at modified intensity.” You’ll know exactly what you’re working toward.
4. Scheduled therapy sessions. You drive to our facility for your scheduled sessions — typically 45 to 60 minutes each. Your assigned therapist sees you every visit. Sessions happen in our therapy gym and aquatic pools. Between visits, you follow a home exercise program your therapist provides and updates as you progress.
5. Progress reviews and discharge. Your therapist tracks measurable benchmarks at every session. When you’ve met your goals, you’re discharged with a maintenance exercise program to protect your gains. If your needs change during treatment — a setback, a new goal, or a condition that requires a different approach — your therapist adjusts the plan in real time.
