Physical therapy in Jacksonville is easy to find. There are clinics on every major corridor in Duval County. What’s harder to find is a PT program that offers the combination of one-on-one sessions, aquatic therapy, specialized programs, and cross-discipline coordination that complex recoveries actually require. At Dolphin Pointe, your physical therapist works inside a full rehabilitation center — not a strip-mall clinic. That means your therapist can walk you from the gym to our heated aquatic therapy pools in the same session. It means your PT coordinates with our occupational therapy and speech therapy teams when your recovery crosses disciplines. And it means you have access to specialized programs — vestibular therapy, lymphedema therapy, pelvic floor therapy — that most outpatient clinics don’t offer at all. That depth is what makes recovery faster and more complete.
Signs You Need Physical Therapy
Some patients are referred by a surgeon after a procedure. Others have been living with a problem for months before they realize therapy can help. If any of these describe your situation, a physical therapy evaluation is the right first step.
Our Physical Therapy Services
Our physical therapy program handles the full scope of musculoskeletal, neurological, and functional rehabilitation. Post-surgical recovery is our most common referral — hip replacements, knee replacements, rotator cuff repairs, ACL reconstructions, spinal fusions, and shoulder replacements. We start rehab as early as your surgeon allows and build a progressive plan around your specific procedure, your weight-bearing restrictions, and your recovery timeline. For patients who need water-based rehabilitation, our aquatic therapy pools let you practice walking, squatting, and range of motion exercises in heated water that supports your body weight and reduces joint stress. Patients from Arlington, University Park, and Fairways Forest drive in for sessions that combine land-based and pool-based therapy in the same visit.
Beyond post-surgical care, we offer specialized PT programs that most clinics in Duval County don’t provide. Our vestibular therapy program treats dizziness, vertigo, and inner ear disorders. Our lymphedema therapy team — one of the few fully certified programs in Jacksonville — uses manual drainage and compression bandaging to manage post-surgical and chronic swelling. Our urinary incontinence therapy program uses biofeedback and pelvic floor strengthening to restore bladder control. These are the programs patients don’t know to ask for — until they find out physical therapy can treat what they’ve been living with for months or years.
For patients dealing with fall risk, chronic pain, or general deconditioning, our balance training, pain management, and therapeutic exercise programs target the root cause rather than masking symptoms. Every program is supervised by a licensed therapist who tracks measurable progress at each visit. We serve both inpatient residents inside our facility and outpatient clients from Springfield, San Marco, Riverside, Mandarin, and across Jacksonville who schedule sessions around their daily lives.
Physical Therapy for Jacksonville and Northeast Florida
There are over 200 physical therapy providers listed in Duval County. Most are small outpatient offices with a therapy gym and a handful of treatment tables. They work fine for simple sprains and strains. But when the recovery is complex — a bilateral joint replacement, a stroke with multiple deficits, a spinal fusion with nerve involvement, a chronic pain condition that hasn’t responded to medication — you need a facility with clinical depth that a standalone office can’t provide. Dolphin Pointe’s physical therapy program operates inside a full rehabilitation center with 24-hour nursing, two heated aquatic pools, computerized balance testing, and therapy teams across PT, OT, and speech who share patient records and coordinate care plans under the same roof.
Our partnership with Jacksonville University means our PT staff trains alongside nursing and allied health students completing clinical rotations at our facility. This keeps our team current on the latest evidence-based protocols for orthopedic recovery, neurological rehabilitation, and geriatric fall prevention. For patients recovering from major procedures at Baptist Health, Ascension St. Vincent’s, UF Health, or Mayo Clinic, our facility provides the clinical quality to match what they received in the hospital — with the comfort of a private suite and a waterfront setting on the St. Johns River.
We serve patients from Arlington, University Park, Fairways Forest, Colony Cove, Woodmere, Gilmore, Lake Lucina, Springfield, San Marco, Riverside, Avondale, Mandarin, Regency, Orange Park, Southside, Downtown Jacksonville, Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach, and Atlantic Beach. We accept most major insurance plans, including Medicare. Call 904-914-8801 to schedule your first physical therapy visit.
What to Expect at Your First PT Session
We keep the process clear from your first call through discharge. No surprises.
1. Referral and scheduling. Your physician, surgeon, or specialist sends a referral. Our team verifies insurance and schedules your evaluation — typically within a few days. Walk-in evaluations are not available; we schedule dedicated time so your therapist can give you their full attention.
2. Initial evaluation. Your physical therapist reviews your medical history, imaging, and surgical reports. Then they perform a hands-on assessment — range of motion, strength, balance, gait, and functional ability. This evaluation takes about an hour and sets the baseline for your entire treatment plan.
3. Treatment plan with measurable goals. Based on your evaluation, your therapist sets specific targets — knee flexion to 120 degrees, single-leg stance for 30 seconds, walk 1,000 feet without an assistive device. You’ll see your own numbers at every session so progress is never a guessing game.
4. One-on-one therapy sessions. Sessions run 45 to 60 minutes and happen in our therapy gym, aquatic pools, or both. Your assigned therapist sees you at every visit — no handoffs to assistants or rotating staff. Frequency depends on your condition, typically two to three times per week for outpatient and daily for inpatient residents.
5. Discharge and home program. When you’ve met your goals, your therapist builds a home exercise program to maintain your gains. If you need ongoing maintenance therapy or a transition to a different program — balance training, pain management, aquatic therapy — we set that up before your last session.
